Each object in Wrench such as documents, tasks etc. may have several characteristics associated with it. In typical situations the parameters available in Wrench may not be sufficient to capture basic information of the project. In such cases additional characteristics are defined on the project types, called Custom Properties. 

Wrench has a scalable characteristics management system, using which additional characteristics can be created as required, for any of these items. Custom Properties address these requirements.
