There are scenarios where adding some file types as attachments or associated documents is not permitted, because it may be against the process of security policy of an organization. To avoid adding such restricted file types as attachments, a facility to mark the file types as restricted is provided. This scenario occurs when adding attachments to correspondences and checklist also.
User with administrator rights can mark selected file types as restricted types. Different file types can be created and depending on your requirement, they can be marked as restricted or permitted.
Creating a file type
1.On the Masters window, click Others.
2.On the Others window, select File Types from the left pane.

3.On the File Type window, click Create.

1.Enter the File Type.
2.Enter the Description for the file type.
By enabling the checkbox Restricted, the File Type will be restricted.
3.Click Ok to save the File Type.
The file types created are displayed in the window. If a file type is marked as restricted, the checkbox in the column RESTRICTED is selected.
Editing the File Type
To edit the File Type,
1.On the File Type window, select the File Type and click Edit.
Make the necessary changes.
2.Click Ok to update the changes
Removing the File Type
To remove the File Type,
1.On the File Type window, select the File Type and click Remove.
A warning message is displayed.
2.Click Yes to delete the File Type.
Restricting file types for different modules
Different file types can be restricted for documents, correspondences, and checklists.
To restrict file types for documents
1.On the File Type window, click Customise for Modules.
The Customise for Module window is displayed.

Modules or objects for which file types can be restricted is listed in the drop-down list next to MODULES. Modules listed are Documents, Correspondence and Checklists. By default, module Document will be selected.
2.Select the module as Document. Genealogy structure and attachment types is displayed.

3.Select a folder or genealogy.
4.Select an attachment type.
5.Select the checkbox next to the file types that are to be restricted.
6.Click Apply to save the settings without exiting from the window.
7.Click OK to save the settings and exit from the window.
When the document types that are marked as restricted is added as attachment to documents in the selected genealogy, a warning message is displayed, and user is restricted from adding the attachment.
On the window the following settings are also available.
Inherit from Parent: Click this button to copy the settings for file type restrictions from the immediate parent level to the current level.
Extend to Child: Select the checkbox to this option and click Apply to extend the current restrictions to its all-child levels.
Apply these settings to all <<Genealogy>>: Select the checkbox next to this option and click Apply to assign this restriction to all files and sub-folders below the selected folder.
To restrict file type for correspondence
1.On the drop-down list next to MODULES select Correspondence. Different Correspondence folders and file types are displayed.

2.Select a folder and select the checkbox next to the file types that are to be restricted.
3.Click Apply to save the settings without exiting from the window.
4.Click OK to save the settings and exit from the window.
When the document types that are marked as restricted is added as attachment to correspondence in the selected genealogy, a warning message is displayed, and user is restricted from adding the attachment.
To restrict file types for checklists
1.On the drop-down list select Checklist. Different file types are listed.

When the document types that are marked as restricted is added as attachment to checkpoints, a warning message is displayed, and user is restricted from adding the attachment.
