Managing Xref files
Previous Topic  Next Topic

A drawing file referenced by another drawing is called an External file or Xref. You may attach an entire drawing to the current drawing as an external reference (Xref). External Reference files (Xrefs) created in Auto Cad can be integrated into Wrench.

It is possible to download drawing files and view the child files from remote locations using Wrench for Web. You can add a single file from a remote location along with the child file information, so that when viewed from other location xref information is available.

Xref files can be viewed and edited using check out, check in procedure.

To add xref files

The procedure to add xref file is similar to adding normal documents. Parent file has to be added first followed by the child files. Once the files are added a relation is created between the files based on the relation existing in AutoCad.

To Check Out and Check In xref files

Procedure for Check Out and Check In is similar to normal check out procedure. When checked out, the parent and child files are compressed to a zip file and downloaded. You can unzip the compressed file and edit the files. The zip file name would contain the login name of the logged in user.

The edited files are saved and then checked in back to the system.

To view xref files

When view option is selected for an xref file, the set of files are compressed and downloaded. You can unzip the files and view individual files.
